I watched Serena Williams played today the Sony Ericsson Championships at the Khalifa Tennis Complex in Doha, Qatar and it was sad to see how defeated she looked after she lost her match against her sister Venus Williams, but even sadder was the fact that I couldn't avoid to notice the tremendous amount of weight that she has put on. But it's not only muscle weight, it's also body fat.
I had already noticed in the past all the muscle that she was building and it's now obvious that it's due to the use of steroids, but if we look at her body overall we can also notice a big increase in body fat.
I have always liked tennis, of course, road cycling is my favorite sport, but I like many other sports as well and follow them pretty faithfully: tennis, running, golf, baseball and athletics in general. So, I have pretty much followed the Williams sisters tennis career and have had admiration for them. But doing steroids is not only cheating, it's also very unhealthy for the person using them.
Anyways, you look at the pictures of Serena Williams and you be judge.

Oh yes wow, she does look overweight. I kind of remember seeing her borderline obese about 4 years ago. Maybe that's why her sister won. Venus looks way better fit than Serena.
She's obviously on steroids and does not look well fit at all.
Do you guys remember John McEnroe, Chris Ever, etc? They were well fit, muscular but not buffed up, agile and with zero body fat.
I just hope that we don't start getting this kind of horrible physical/athletic decadence -American football players??- in the tennis world.
Of course she's doing steroids. It's not possible for a woman to build that kind of muscle without the help of steroids. The amount of testosterone in the female body is minimal in comparison to the male's.
Well, for sure, she does not look healthy and is not setting a good example for people who need to lose weight and exercise. When athletes start doping, they are only focused on money and the sport means nothing to them, imho.
I remember Martina Navratilova, she was my favorite tennis player back in the good ol' days....and man, she was so well fit....and still is.
Serena is a muscular girl going back to when she was number 1 in the world. Take a look at her muscle back then; it was no different than now. The only difference is the amount of fat she has now on top of those muscles. She has a different constitution than Venus, she has more moisture whereas Venus is dry. Moist body types can put on fat much quicker than dry body types. As a tennis coach we have to know these things and have our students train accordingly. Serena has to hit the gym more consistently.
Most tennis players today are taking homeopathic hgh oral spray because it's safe, undetectable, and legal for over the counter sales. As time goes on it seems it might be considered as benign a performance enhancer as coffee, aspirin, red bull, and bubble gum.
Steroids can be found with testing. Growth hormones cannot.
Serena's behavior last night in the semi-final of the US Open is one more, of the several, irrefutable signs of something wrong with Serena.
I have closely followed tennis since 1977 and this is the worst behavior I have ever seen by a tennis player. I have never seen a professional or weekend tennis players act like this. Serena's behavior was much worse than the all-time bad boy of tennis, John McEnroe. To my knowledge, he never threatened lines people as Serena did last night. I have seen her explode at other players on other occasions; yet her actions last night were abhorrent. This begs the question, What has she done in smaller venues when not on prime time television?
This sets a low precedent for the game of tennis. Should Serena not be penalized for her actions, beyond losing one point in last night's game, we may see more shameful behavior like hers.
Some people feel her frequent maniacal outbursts are steroid induced.
I recall one of Serena's outburst against Jelena Jankovic. Some against lines people. Yet, many of these outbursts occur when "getting pumped up." Yet, when her eyes seem as though they are about to pop out and her head about to explode, it seems there are other unseen forces at work.
As has been mentioned before, Serena entered the 2007 Australian Open ranked 81st in the world because of infrequent play. It was also mentioned by reporters that she had not been practicing routinely. She was also carrying 30 to 40 pounds of fat - much heavier than any tennis player, male or female, I had ever seen. Yet, defeated all her competitors, all of whom were in top athletic condition.
And how could she go from normal size and weight, at the age of 17 to 19, to an extremely pronounced figure with profoundly thick limbs? To add such size would require an extensive, aggressive weight-lifting routine over a long period of time. How could she maintain such a routine while touring the professional tennis circuit? This is very peculiar. In sharp contrast, almost every tennis player wishes to be light for enhanced running speed and agility. Consider professional football players in the position of wide-receiver: Have you ever seen one who is bulky as Serena?
So, her frequent outbursts, winning major tournaments without much practice or play and her immense size in relationship to the other professional tennis players on the WTA seems to point to one conclusion: steroids.
The last line of defense, for those who wish to defend Serena, is testing. Yet, testing can be subject to big money and corruption. Even The World's Series was a scam one year. Perhaps, it was a scam more than once.
The United States Tennis Association must strongly condemn Serena's actions. I feel the USTA should also consider imposing a suspension and monetary fines.
But we may see a cover-up. And the biggest cover-up, should there be one, will come from the media in which they will marginalize and brush this aside.
Anon, comment #10,
Great comment. It's such a detailed and intelligent comment. Of course, I agree with you 100 percent.
Thank you so much for sharing.
Serena Williams is a darn fool and a total steroid doped up idiot.
Looks like a duck, quacks like a duck.
I also suspect Serena is using some "little helpers" to improve her performance. It's enough to compare her photos from for example 2003 and 2007 and the difference in the body shape is tremendous. She has grown from size 8-10 to I think 12-14. Her muscles are bigger than men's , when you look up a photo of her with her ex-boyfriend, Jackie , the actor, he looks like her little younger brother.
She has never had a pleasant character but now she has got a lot more aggressive than she used to be. In one of the posts someone made a great point about how bad can she probably be when she plays at small tournaments with no cameras present.
Despite the media trying to hype up the big brands favourite cash cow I think her game has worsened over the years. She now relies almost purely on physical power as she lacks speed A LOT and has not got great tactics. Therefore I am sure she must be using something as during the year she plays some really mediocre tennis compared to what she is still able to do at slam tournaments.
I think she doesn't enjoy tennis anymore, it is just a necessary tool to help her pay for her lavish lifestyle. She probably spends more time doing photoshoots for her sponsors than in the gym.
