Strong Earthquake In Los Angeles And San Diego

IMG_6624Image by corykrug via FlickrI just felt the earth move! Right now, 11 minutes ago! I am in San Diego, California, I hope everybody is OK. I will keep blogging about it.
USGS reports an earthquake of a 5.8 magnitude in Los Angeles, California. The epicenter is being reported at 3 Kms South West Chino Hills, California. It's 47 Kms East South East of Los Angeles Civic Center, Downtown LA.
Oh man, it felt strong down here in San Diego, I wonder how strong people felt it in LA. It was big. It felt strong and long. Oh wow. The things in my medical office just rocked from one side to the other!

UPDATE: Yahoo reports on the earthquake

Carlos Sastre Victory Lap

Team CSC in the 2004 TTT.Image via WikipediaThis is Carlos Sastre's victory, and I'm extremely happy for him. I am glad that we can still enjoy a super-cycling event like this one, where the best cyclist war rewarded and praised the way it's supposed to be. I am glad that the most beautiful sport in the world -cycling- has succeeded again and has a new hero, a new triumph, a new image.....and a clean history.

Viva Le Tour De France, viva Carlos Sastre, and viva Lance Armstrong (my #1 hero)

“I believe in clean cycling because I am clean,” Sastre said. “I know all the sacrifices I have made. In the world, there are cheats and there always will be cheats. There are also people who know how to sacrifice and who know how to do the work in a clean way. In our generation and in our society, we cannot eliminate the cheaters, we can only fight hard to reduce them.”

Carlos Sastre Wins The 2008 Tour De France

SAINT-AMAND-MONTROND, FRANCE - JULY 26: Race ...Image by Getty Images via DaylifeYES, YES, YES! Carlos Sastre WINS the 2008 Tour De France! YEEHAW! Oh man, I wanted him so much to beat Cadel Evans. I was literally on the edge of my couch screaming like a real 'nutsoid' when Carlos Sastre completed today the Individual Time Trial beating Cadel Evans in the overall general classification. Oh, YES! See? It is not good to be too political if you want to perform well. Being too political and trying to boycott the Olympic Games probably drained all Cadel Evans energy. I just hope now that the envious and jelous people that seem to be organizing the Tour De France don't start accusing Sastre of doping. Sastre showed he was THE MAN, THE CYCLIST, THE WINNA!

2) Cadel Evans
3) B. Kohl
4) Menchov

Estelle Getty Golden Girl Dies Today

This is a sad news. Estelle Getty, a vivacious, tremendously funny and sweet lady, dies today at the age of 84. She suffered from severe dementia and Parkinson's Disease. It is a sad news for me because I loved her since I first had the privilege of watching her in the "Golden Girls" show. I fell in love with her, her acting, her capacity to make me laugh so much. Rest in peace, adorable lady, you will always be in my heart and in many many other people's hearts, I am sure of that.

The 2008 Tour De France Sucks!

I never thought I would say something like this about the Tour De France, but this is how I feel right now. It sucks, it completely stinks! It is boring, slow, it lacks of passion and fury. Why? Because they are not doping? NO, NO, NO, because the moral of the 157 cyclists left is on the ground. Nobody is attacking, nobody is trying to go ahead of the peloton and leave it behind because they are afraid they are going to be tested and be falsely accused of doping.
I am fed up with this year's Tour De France, and frankly, I don't know if I am going to follow it anymore next year. I also hate that Gred LeMond is in France giving his stupid opinions about how "he never doped" (sure...) and how he dislikes Lance Armstrong and Floyd Landis and many other cyclists. Greg LeMond is a whiny little old mentally sick overweight guy. He might even have to check up with a Psychiatrist about his mental state, since it seems that he always feels that other cyclists are either "threatening" him or "blackmailing"him.
He doesn't even like Alejandro Valverde!

Velo News: What do you think about Valverde in the yellow jersey?

Greg LeMond: I don’t know what to say. Operación Puerto, I don’t know enough about his history.

Source

I have a message for you Greg: Leave the Tour De France NOW! Nobody needs you there. You are finished, and the only thing you can do to be on the press is to falsely acuse others and create drama.

Walmart Pharmacy Error Causes Teen To Lapse Into Coma

I found this shocking story about how a teen goes into a coma because of a terrible mistake made by a Walmart Pharmacy. The quality of medicine in the United States is getting worse. We hear horror stories about medical problems everyday.

"Jessie Scott, an 18-year-old from Draper, Utah remains in a coma since the end of April because of a critical error which occurred at the Walmart pharmacy. His doctor prescribed Jessie 5mg of Oxycodone Hydrochoride in a liquid solution to help him with the severe pain of his strep throat, however, what he received from the pharmacy was a concentrate..."

Ricco And Saunier Duval Out Of The Tour De France

I am getting fed up with all this stupidity going on in the Tour De France. Riccardo Ricco tested positive for a new substance that is a new form of EPO known by the name of CERA What makes me absolutely MAD is the way the organizers of the tour are handling the situation: with absolute disrespect for the athlete and the sport! Policemen took Ricco to the nearest police station for questioning, treating him like a vile criminal! I am getting disgusted with the organizers of the Tour De France. It is not what it used to be before, with drama, passion, excellent performers, goals accomplished, triumphs and great pride. Today, the stage was boring, it lacked passion, and I could tell that the mood and spirits of the peloton were on the floor. It is just horrible the way the cyclists are being treated. The want a "clean" tour? Give me a break! I am glad the whole Team Saunier Duval quit the 2008 Tour De France.

Eric Shanteau, A Strong Hero

Olympic swimmer Eric Shanteau, 24 years old is, with no doubt, a very courageous human being. He was diagnosed this past June 19th with testicular cancer, just one week before he was schedule to leave for the Olympic trials. He has been preparing very hard to go to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games for long time to compete in the 200-meter breaststroke, and now this news: HE HAS TESTICULAR CANCER.

"It almost numbed me," he said. "I'll remember that day for the rest of my life. Talk about a life-changing experience. That's as big a one as you can have, I think. You're changed for the rest of your life." -Shanteau said in an interview with The Associated Press.

However, this terrible disease is not going to keep him away from going to the Olympic Games. He is going under the advice of his doctors who determined that his cancer had not spread yet and it was perfectly treatable. He will have the surgery done when he comes back home.

This is what Eric Shanteau had to say about MY HERO Lance Armstrong: "Lance's agent told my coaches that I'm the closest thing to Lance Armstrong that there is on the planet right now," Shanteau said. "If I can have a fraction of the impact that he's had, just a tiny little bit, then I think what I'm going through will be good."

I already love you, Eric Shanteau, you have proven to be a strong hero! Go and get those Olympic medals boy...YOU CAN!

Hatred And Prejudice

Unfortunately, hatred and prejudice are not representative of only a certain social, cultural, religious, political or ethnic group. There are so many religions, cults and philosophies in the world that promote hate, not only against gays and lesbians but against other nationalities, cultures, philosophies, believers and non-believers and against skin color, etc. No wonder we are at war. We cannot get along, no even with our own neighbors. Just because they happen to think or be a little bit different from us, we tend to reject them and get away from them, avoid them and not talk to them.
Maybe the day will come when we can really grow and follow our own beliefs, not follow any belief at all, marry the opposite sex, marry the same sex, be white, brown, yellow, black, ugly, pretty or physically disabled and get along, accept our differences and embrace them.
Unfortunately, I don't see this happen in my lifetime. Hate and prejudice have always existed. I don't believe this is a "sign" of the present times we are living in. I truly think that rejecting other human beings because we might feel superior or better than them is a part of the human condition that we have not been able to evolve away from.
In the meantime, all we can do is live our life to the maximum. Live it in a healthy and compassionate way. That would make us stronger human beings.

I Feel Like Whining

I do, because nobody pays close attention to the awesome, great and strong cyclist George Hincapie. Just because he has never won a Grand Tour or any other little/big cycling race in the world, critics and public in general just disregard him and don't mention how professional and excellent he is as an individual cyclist and as a member of ANY cycling team.

Hey, let's look at the Discovery Channel team with George Hincapie in it. Didn't Lance Armstrong win the Tour De France 7 times? And now, Georgie is part of the Team Columbia, also an American cycling team that is winning practically every single jersey in this 2008 Tour De France.
I love Lance Armstrong, absolutely, he is my hero, but George Hincapie is right there too. I love him, admire him tremendously for his professionalism, comradeship, his perfect form on the bike, his strength and his passion for cycling.
Come on, right now he is doing the Tour De France while being away from his 3 week old baby! He's gotta stay strong, he said so, for his baby Enzo Hincapie, born on June 20, 2008 and for his Columbia Team!

Gotta love George! Stay strong George....like you do always.

Stefan Schumacher, Alcohol And Dope

Stefan Schumacher is still fighting accusations of driving under the influence of a drug related to amphetamines. He has, however, admitted his drunkenness caused him to crash against a garden fence on an early morning on the first week of October 2007 after he had left a disco in Stuttgart where he had been partying with friends all night.
Hopefully he's riding the 2008 Tour De France clean, healthy and strong, without any kind of dope nor any enhancing drug in his body. We'll see. Time and tests will tell.

Schumacher In The Yellow Jersey

Schumacher performed very well today in the 55KM Individual Time Trial, so well that he took the Maillot Jaune away from the French Romain Faillu(Agritubel) down to 40th place, and Alejandro Valverde took a horrible blow, going back down to 17th place in the GC with 1'27" behind. I find it very difficult for him to recover the Yellow Jersey anymore.
Cadel Evans did great. He's now in 4th place with only 21 seconds behind Schumacher, and we all now that he's good in the mountains. We might have a winner already. Too soon to tell though, it's only the first week and there are 15 stages to go.

Romain Feillu Wins Stage 2

Ale Valverde went down to 4th. plas with 1:45 min behind. I doubt he can recover from this one, specially after the hilly stages ahead. He's just not that good at conquering the French mountains, at least not as good as when he's pedaling his way up the Spanish ones. I don't know why, but he has shown in the past that the French mountains are just to intimidating for him. I hope he can recover from today's loss but I frankly doubt it.
This new and young cyclist-Romain Feillu- was amazing. But I have one question: will he be able to keep the Maillot Jaune through out the rest of the Tour? Probably not, and I'm not saying this because I doubt about his capability as a pro cyclist, I am saying this because he's young and he doesn't have the experience necessary to beat the great ones behind him. I wish him the best, not without admitting that I might be wrong and that he -Romain Feillu- could surprise us all and win the tour. Time will tell. Let's keep on watching this amazing 2008 Tour De France.

Thor Hushovd Wins Tour De France Stage 2

The big man on the bike, Thor Hushovd, wins today's stage. The absence of the prologue in the beggining of the tour absolutely helped him to get this win. Alejandro Valverde still in the Maillot Jaune looking like a Greek god on his beautiful Pinarello bike. Mauricio Soler finished in an unfortunate 179th place due to his fall he had yesterday hurting -possible fracturing- one of his wrists.

Valverde In The Yellow Jersey

Wow, what a fantastic 197.5 kms race this was! It was absolutely awesome how the whole cycling day went. Nobody was expecting for Alejandro Valverde to take the stage at the end with such an energetic sprint right before the last 100 mts. And he looked good, his form on the bike was perfect, physically he was well fit, in a perfect mental state, positive, energetic and absolutely lovely.

Live Long

Yesterday I rode 82.45 miles. It's my first long ride of the Summer, and I had so much fun and energy, and the best thing of all, it's that my muscles don't feel that sore at all. I was on my lactate threshold for 1:24:03 hrs. It felt good, very good. And when I was climbing a 17%/14 kms hill, I just felt so alive and full of love for cycling, myself, humanity, animals, nature. My endorphins hit me so hard that I got a natural high, so intense that was, that I felt the oxygen invading my brain, my heart, my lungs and my muscles with such force that I felt like I owned the sport of cycling, I felt so good and complete. Thank god, the great spirit, the universe, the high power and Lance Armstrong and all the greatest cyclists of the world for making cycling the most wonderful sport of the year. Vive le cyclisme! Michael Rasmussen Wins One Million Dollars

HA! Michael Rasmussen is owed one million dollars by his former pro cycling team, Rabobank. Rasmussen sued that team for 5.5 millions dollars because they kicked him out of the 2007 Tour De France within days of the finish. This victory for him happens one day after he got a suspension from the Monaco's Cycling Federation losing his cycling licence for two years for lying about his whereabouts days before the 2007 Tour De France started and when he was called to have his blood tested for doping and never showed up. Anyways, he wanted 5.5 million dollars and he only got ONE miserable million dollars. I would be mad, wouldn't ya? -j/k-
