Imagine Peace Not War

LONDON - MAY 25: Yoko Ono talks to children a...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

John Lennon and Yoko Ono imagined it, said it, sang it, thought it: PEACE.
We all have to stop making wars and start making love. To create peace we gotta stop fighting other cultures, other human beings. There is too much hate and violence going on, but somebody's got to stop this madness, and that somebody is each one of us because peace starts within ourselves.
Not attacking back, not fighting back, not killing back.
There have been so many wars through out the human history, and all these wars have accomplished nothing, nothing at all, only pain and terrible suffering and it is my firm believe that it is time to stop now.
I imagine living in a world of peace and love before my life ends. A world where there's no hunger, no cruelty, no abuse. I hope I can live long enough to see this. Peace and love to all of you and the ones around you.

Floyd Landis OUCH Pro Cycling Team

Floyd Landis is back to pro-cycling after a 2 year ban due to testosterone doping accusations. His new team is the OUCH-Maxxis and he is focused on the Tour Of California probably hoping to win it or at least to be in the podium. But there is just one little problem for him: Lance Armstrong will be racing in this tour as well and I'm sure he will be putting a good fight.
Whatever it is, if you love Lance Armstrong or another pro cyclists, if you have a love-hate relationship with Floyd Landis, this 2009 cycling season is already promising to be an exciting one!

“Everyone gets along pretty good. Obviously you don’t know how people deal with stress until you are in a race and everybody is tired. But this feels like a good group of guys. Everyone is motivated. We’ve been having fun.” ~Landis told VeloNews

"A forecast calling for drizzle and cloud cover couldn’t scare away the 60 or so bike riders who showed up to the Holiday Inn in Temecula to ride with Floyd Landis and the 11 other members of the OUCH-Maxxis professional cycling team. The two-hour spin through nearby Fallbrook came at the beginning of the week long OUCH training camp, and the team organization opened it up to sponsors, media and the public."~ Fred Dreier reported in VeloNews

OUCH-Maxxis Pro Cycling Team

Floyd Landis, 33
Rory Sutherland (Aus), 27
Tim Johnson, 32
Jonathan Chodroff, 23
Cameron Evans (Can), 25
Roman Kilun, 27
Bobby Lea, 26
Patrick McCarty
Karl Menzies (Aus), 32
John Murphy, 25
Andrew Pinfold (Can), 30
Bradley White, 27

Imagine People Living In Peace

There is too much hate, violence and wars in the world at this moment. Sometimes it's just too much for me to take. The racism, the fundamentalism of religion and theism, the opposing of human freedom, the lack of compassion.
Sometimes it is just too much for me to take.
And I wish I could do something to promote peace, tolerance and love worldwide. But I don't know how to do it. I am not a famous person not have the means to do it, and that pains me. It does pain me because I can see that almost every one suffers: the Christian, the Muslim, the atheist, the capitalist, the communist, the socialist, the poor and the rich.
But I realize that this is not only a problem of our times. Societies have fought and gone to war for thousands and thousands of years. So maybe I just should chill out and understand that humans are humans that are controlled by something known as "human condition".
But sometimes....this is just too much for me to take.

And when I feel like this I try to find refuge in my music and my sports. So I'm going to make a post about one of the songs that I like the most -I have hundreds that "I like the most" lol-. Then, I'm getting in my cycling jerseys and gonna go out for a hard and long bike ride. Later, folks.

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Livingstrong Healthy Tips To Avoid Gastritis

Lots of patients who otherwise are in good health complain that they cannot go for 24 hours without having pain and a burning sensation in the gastric area, gastro-esophageal reflux, flatulence, abdominal bloating, nausea and general abdominal discomfort.
All these physical problems are a result of bad eating habits, personality problems and a stressful lifestyle. In some occasions there is a bacteria known as Helicobacter Pylori that can actually cause severe chronic cases of gastritis and gastric ulcers.

LIVINGSTRONG HEALTHY TIPS TO AVOID GASTRITIS

Somethings you have to avoid:

1. Avoid the ingestion of irritants like alcohol, hot peppers and spices.
2. Avoid eating foods that are loaded with grease. Like pizza, fried foods, pork meat, pancakes, etc.
3. Avoid smoking and avoid being around people who are smoking.
4. Avoid taking pills over the counter without the proper advice of your medical doctor.
5. Avoid anger, resentment and stressful situations.

Somethings you have to do:

1. Eat 5 to 6 times a day, but the amount of food of each meal should be small and free of irritants.
2. Always eat breakfast before you start your day.
3. Do not lie down nor go to bed right after you eat. You should wait at least two to three hours.
4. Try some methods of relaxation. Like meditation, yoga or anything that can bring peace of mind to your life.
5. Go to your family doctor so s/he can prescribe -in case you needed- some antiacid, H2 blockers or Proton pump inhibitor medications.

Be kind to yourself and the world around you.

Allan Davis Wins The Tour Down Under

Allan Davis is the definite winner of the 2009 Tour Down Under while Francesco Chicchi wins the final stage.
Lance Armstrong came in 29 place in the General Classification at 0:49 seconds. I would say this is not bad at all for a comeback after 3 and a half years of professional retirement. Cycling training for more than 3 years with no pro race in between does not build the stamina nor the physical condition that is required to win the pro tours. That is why Lance could not win this one and, most of all, let's remember that Lance is not used to competing in January, so early in the cycling season. There are still other races that he -Lance- has to compete until the 2009 Tour De France gets here, and he has the chance to work on his form in the meantime and re-perfect again his pro-cycling technique and everything else that has made him a cycling bull.

George Hincapie finished 13 place at 0:40 seconds and Robbie McEwen 79 at 34:29 minutes, but he -Robbie- finished 2nd place in today's stage.
Personally, I love Lance Armstrong, but my love for him is not blind at all, I know there are other cyclists who are also excellent performers for whom I have great admiration and respect as well. Those cyclists I'm talking about are, amongst many others, George Hincapie and Robbie McEwen.

Final GC standings

1. Allan Davis (Aus), Quick Step, at 19:26:59
2. Stuart O'Grady (Aus), Saxo Bank, at 0:25
3. José Joaquin Rojas Gil (Spa), Caisse d'Epargne, at 0:30
4. Martin Elmiger (Swi), AG2R La Mondiale, at 0:30
5. Wesley Sulzberger (Aus), Française Des Jeux, at 0:37

Lance Armstrong Survives Cycling Accident

Tour Down Under Stage 3 was 'D' stage of hell. It was a carnage, with crashes, heat, winds that reached gusts of 85 km/h and nine riders were forced out of the race with injuries after the crash.
The cycling crash occurred very early in the stage at the 12 km right before the breakaway of a group of 16 riders where Lance Armstrong, O'Grady and Michael Rogers were.
Fortunately, Lance Armstrong avoided the crash and finished in 39th in the general classification with only + 0:29 seconds, which it's great. He was in 68 place after stage 2.
Another cyclist that I adore (not as much as I adore Lance, of course), George Hincapie, is in 12 place in the Overall Classification.
I would love to see Georgie in the podium. He is a great cyclist and deserves a good win.

Opening Criterium Tour Down Under

The Tour Down Under has started with the Opening Criterium, which is sort of like a prologue to the Tour Down Under but the times won't count towards the General Classification. And it's a good thing because Lance Armstrong came in a very honorable 64th place.
This opening race is not a difficult one and it was not one for Lance Armstrong to win since it's a hectic one and more suited for sprinters, and Lance Armstrong is a stage racing cycling bull.

I personally think that it was a great come back for Lance because he had the chance to get back in the excitement of competing without the pressure of winning.

The Tour Down Under will officially start on the 20th and you can watch it live on CyclingTV

I am so excited about Lance Armstrong's comeback that I can hardly sleep. This years folks, it's going to be one of my best years in my life!

RESULTS OF THE OPENING CRITERIUM

1. Robbie McEwen (Aus), Katusha, 51km in 1:04:32
2. Wim Stroetinga (Ned), Milram, s.t.
3. Graeme Brown (Aus), Rabobank, s.t.
4. Andre Greipel (Ger), Columbia-High Road, s.t.
5. Jose Rojas (Spa), Caisse D'Epargne, s.t.

Your parents are over-weight and they don't exercise. That is the reason why they have to keep on taking cholesterol/triglyceride pills. In most cases the levels of these lipids in the blood are controlled very well with a proper diet and fitness.
I would suggest that you have your lipids checked with your family physician and if they are within normal limits then you can have about 3 or 4 eggs a week with no problem but keep on exercising as you have been doing it already.
Take in consideration that not every physical illness is hereditary.

Mish asked: If I drink decaf will I receive the same benefit?

There are many benefits and some risks associated to both coffee and decaf drinks. Harvard Medical School found out that decaf actually increases the levels of blood lipids that can cause heart disease. But decaffeinated coffee also seems to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer according to the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
Caffeinated coffee can cause some problems in consumed in excess. Some of them are heart palpitations, tachycardia, insomnia, anxiosness, and others. But its consuption has multiple benefists when drinking in moderation.

If you ask me, I would stick to drinking regular caffenaited coffee.

Consult with your physician and ask him/her if 2 cups a day of caffenaited coffee are OK for you to take.

Livingstrong Healthy Tips To Start The Day

These are some health tips to follow at the beginning of your day, so you can go to work or study feeling fresh, happy and full with energy. Again, if you have some other ideas and tips, please add them in your comment so we can learn more about health and wellness.

Livingstrong Ideas To Start The Day

1. Wake up early everyday so you have enough time to work out and have breakfast before you start your daily activities.

2. You should practice some deep breathing exercises -inhale/exhale 5 to 10 times- right when you wake up and before you start your work out.

3. Tell yourself something positive every morning. Something that makes you feel better about yourself, your future, your life. Something like: I am a strong person, I know I can overcome all obstacles and be succesful today in all areas of my life.

4. Make yourself a nutritious and healthy breakfast. If you know that your levels of cholesterol are fine and you exercise regularly, then your body can afford to have 1 or 2 eggs every other day. Eggs fill you up and keep your hunger away without cravings until lunch time.

5. Have a cup of coffee within the first 20 minutes after you finish your daily training routine. Coffee has proven to be good for athletes:

a) Coffee contains chemicals that reduce inflammation and improve blood vessel function.
b) Regular coffee drinkers have a lower risk for death from heart disease.
c) Remember: moderation matters. 2 cups of coffee a day are good enough.

Maximum Heart Rate And Power Zone

I hope you guys started the new year following my healthy tips last week.
And as I promised I am going to answer to your questions either by email -if requested- or in my blogging.
The Smithsonian asked: "What is power zone?"

Answer: Power Zone is the anaerobic zone where your heart beats at its maximum. It is the highest number of heart beats per minutes to achieve the best physical exertion during training.
Heart rate training zones are calculated based on your Maximum Heart Rate.
The easiest way to calculate your Maximum Heart Rate is using this formula:

220-age = MHR
Example: 220 - 32 = 188

US researchers reported in the Medical and Science in Sports and Exercise in May 2007 that they had come up with a more accurate formula than the one above:

MHR = 206.9 - (0.67 x age)

UK researchers represented by scientists at the John Moores University in Liverpool reported in the Int J Sports Med in 2007 with a different formula to calculate MHR for endurance and anaerobic trained athletes:
  • Male athletes - MHR = 202 - (0.55 x age)
  • Female athletes - MHR = 216 - (1.09 x age)
Once you calculate your MHR you have to figure out which ones are your training zones: health zone, fitness zone and power zone.

Health Zone starts at 55% of your Maximum Heart Rate
Fitness Zone start at 70% of your Max Heart Rate
Power Zone (anaerobic training) starts at 80% of your Maximum Heart Rate

Hope this information is helpful but if you have more questions just let me know.

NOTE: It's Monday. So I will be blogging about Healthy Tips and Ideas sometime later today.

Cycling New Zealand National Champs Te Awamutu

This is another fabulous race, my friends. The National Championship Te Awamutu is a three day cycling race that is held in New Zealand and starts today with the time trials, the women's elite road race over 20 kilometres on Saturday and the under-23 and elite men's races over 180kms on Sunday.

Men's elite is well represented by Jeremy Vennell, who already won today the aboplus Elite National individual time trial championship in Te Awamutu this afternoon.

Hooray for him!

Women's elite. I have my eyes on Joanne Kiesanowski, a Beijing Olimpian.
"I am a full time cyclist from New Zealand racing in the USA and Europe. I am currently racing for Team TIBCO out of Palo Alto, California. When I race in Europe this year I will race for the New Zealand National Team." ~Joanne Kiesanowski says in her Website.

I think that all these races and cyclists are worth of our attention as well.

Jayco Yellow Jersey Classification 2009

Well, the first cycling race of the season -Jayco Bay Cycling Classic 2009- is over. And it was an exciting one, let me tell ya. And like I said on Saturday, Kirsty Broun needed to keep on perfecting her cycling technique in order to win the race...and she did, my friends, she did. But not in a 'cheap' way, no sir. She output so much energy that she won with 40 points in the final classification. Hurray for Kirsty!

ELITE WOMEN

JAYCO Yellow Jersey Classification

1 Kirsty Broun MB Cycles 40

2 Josie Tomic Plan B 32

3 Chloe Hoskins Mazda 29

4 Peta Mullens Jayco VIS 28

5 Rochelle Gilmore NSWIS 20

Now, I was expecting Robbie McEwen to finish in the podium and he did. 3rd place, not bad at all. Some of my cycling pals wanted Stuart O'Grady to perform better but for some reason -unknown to me- he couldn't make it, and finished in 16th place. Ouch!
Believe or not, but the 'Big Guy' -Graeme Brown- was the final winer.

ELITE MEN

JAYCO Yellow Jersey Classification

1 Graeme Brown Urban Hotel 26

2 Bernie Sulzberger Virgin Blue 25

3 Robbie McEwen Bike Hub/Ridley 23

Livingstrong Healthy Tips To Start The New Year 2009

I want to start this new year adding a new element to my blog. Something exciting that we can look forward to read and learn at the beginning of each week, something positive that can make our lives a little bit healthier and happier everyday of our lives. So I came up with the idea of writing 5 healthy tips every Monday starting today. The tips can be related to food, exercising, mental health, nutrition, fitness, spirituality, and anything that can contribute for us to have a strong, healthy and long living.

Note: If you have healthy tips and ideas that you want to share with us, please let me know. Also, if you have questions about what I write feel free to ask in the comment section of the blog and I will give you an answer blogging about it.

Let us start, shall we?

LIVING STRONG HEALTHY TIPS TO START THE NEW YEAR 2009

1. Exercise at least 55 minutes 5 times a week and try to be at least 20 minutes -out of those 55 - in your power zone.
2. Eating oranges, grapefruit, limes, lemon, pepper and other vegetables and fruits -beet greens, cabbage, brussels sprouts, kale, tomato, avocado- increases our intake of vitamin C, which it's most needed to decrease our chances of getting the flu and gives us a boost in our immunity.
3. Try to laugh more. Laughing relaxes our mood and reduces stress.
4. Don't let your skin get too dry in the Winter. Use a moisturizer after you bathe and before you go to bed.
5. Start the new year by going to your family physician and have a full check up that includes blood work -glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, CBC and UA.

Take care of yourself...and the world around you.
