CLEAVER Sopranos Horror Movie

Halloween makes us talk about horror movies, scary masks, trick or treats and whatnot. I, personally, like horror movies very very much, from The Exorcist to Jigsaw, Halloween to The Massacre of Texas, Silence of the Lambs to Jeepers Creepers. Have seen them all, enjoy them all.

One horror movie that has never been filmed in its entirety is CLEAVER, a fictional "movie to be" created by the known mobster Christopher Moltisanti, nephew of Tony Soprano and part of the crime Italian mafia THE SOPRANOS, a successful HBO TV series that lasted 6 seasons.
In CLEAVER, Jonathan LaPaglia stars as the "Cleaver" and Daniel Baldwin as the Mob Boss "Sally Boy,"  His vision was realized with the help of Screenwriter JT Dolan, Producer Carmine Lupertazzi, and up-and-coming Director Morgan Yam.

Well, The Sopranos itself has tons of horrorific killings, assesinations, deception, suspense and drama. I own all the 6 seasons and just watched the episode where Christopher finally presented the premiere for his Hollywood movie CLEAVER.

Happy Halloween everyone, don't get too spooked, last Friday's was too scary enough with the FDIC closing 9 banks in the US, three banks in CA, three in Texas, two in Illinois and one in Arizona!

Big Bear In The Tour of California 2010

SANTA CLARITA, CA - FEBRUARY 21: Levi Leiphei...Image by Getty Images via Daylife
I had the great honor of seeing Lance Armstrong this year in the Tour of California at the beggining of a stage in Rancho San Bernando, CA. It was an experience that I will never forget and will most likely repeat next year, but this time it will be in the wonderful and majestic mountains of Big Bear. I can't wait!

Lance Armstrong, Levi Leipheimer, George Hincapie and David Zabriskie will participate in the Amgen Tour of California 2010 that will be held in May 16 - 23, and the Queen stage (Big Bear Mountains stage) will be on May 21st. So, get ready friends to climb those mountains one day before on your bikes, I know I will, camp overnight and wait for the pro-cyclists mass next day!
"I think it’s really awesome,” said Cameron Williams, a young nationally-ranked cyclist from Big Bear City. “Last year we were going to follow the Tour in our motor home, but we just never got around to it. So I think it’s awesome it’s coming to Big Bear. We don’t even have to leave the comfort of our houses. We can just look out the window and watch Lance Armstrong, who’s the best rider pretty much ever."

Snow Bike In Denver Colorado

This picture is for cycling fanatics like myself, and for all those who enjoy excellent photography.
"Snow piles up on the frame of a bicycle parked in downtown Denver as an autumn snowstorm sweeps over the intermountain West. Forecasters predict that up to 10 inches of snow will fall on the Denver metropolitan area while some places in the mountains could see up to two feet of snow before the storm moves out Thursday."~Kristen Wyatt

Tru Blood Sports Energy Drink

There is an awesome blog about Science Fiction which posts are written by the blogger known as Mish. I am NOT a Sci Fi fanatic, let's make that clear, but I like to read her blog because she creates a nice mix of science fiction musings with reality facts, and she is also a cycling fanatic like myself and loves sports like I do.

Last week she wrote about this TV series called TruBlood, but what called my special attention was the fact that she mentioned this new sports energy drink that is part of this HBO Sci Fi show and now it's available to the public. Of course, it's name is TruBlood.
"It's official! The Tru Blood drink has now been "de-fictionalized" and emerges into reality as a delicious blood orange carbonated drink." --promotes HBO
This is part of my comment on Mish's blog:
"Another point I wanted to talk about is what you say about the new ENERGY DRINK that will be available in January, the Tru Blood drink.
I love energy drinks with low carbs or no sugar at all. What I like in them is the content of high caffeine and high L-Taurine, specially the latter.
I hope this new energy drink is available in Mexico, my place or residence, I would love to try some, get on my road bike to race on a Sunday morning and do a Floyd Landis win....!"

Eat Chicken Soup And Live Long

Mexican Chicken Soup
My maternal grandmother (to honor her I want to mention her name: Consuelo Natalia Noriega Cervantes -RIP-) raised me since I was 3 days old, and she always fed me right. She was what I would consider a health fanatic, no wonder she died when she was 109 years old, no Alzheimer, no diabetes, no high blood pressure, ever, she never got severely sick, only few allergies here and there, she died peacefully on her bed at night. She loved to walk long distances all her life, and she ate very nutritious food as well. Never drunk alcohol nor smoked.

One of her advices she gave me and told me never to forget was to eat my chicken soup, at least 3 times a week, full with veggies and little bit of grease only, "you know -she said- bit of oil just enough to lubricate your intestines".

She was a wonderful woman and a very smart lady. She was right. Scientists have found that eating soup in regular basis can extend your lifespan and most important of all, make those life years physically healthy and mentally enjoyable. By "mentally enjoyable" I mean NO depression, NO dementia, NO Alzheimer, NO anger, etc.

Chicken soup contains bioflavinoids (strengths the immune system), carotenoids (content of thermally processed tomato), ACE inhibitors (mainstay medications for treating high blood pressure)

Chicken legs and feet, often discarded as waste products in the U.S. are used in other countries (like in Mexico) to add more flavor to the soup, and they appear to be a better source of ACE.

Now, do not think that chicken soup is the only benefactor here, beef and seafood soup also work wonders! Ah, and if you happen to be vegetarian, I would suggest you try a hearty vegetable soup recipe with beans...delicious!

US Dollar Is Worth Pennies Now

Some interesting article to read about the downturn of the value of the greenback. I kindly suggest that you take a look at the graphs so you can have an idea of how the money printing of the dollar and the great US debt, bailouts and the general US Government spending have put a heavy weight on the dollar.

If we adjust inflation, we can see that the devaluation of the dollar since 1971 has been severe. One dollar can only buy you 18 cents of goods today of what it did back in 1971.  And with the financial policies in play right now by the current administration, it is very probable that the dollar could lose more value down the road.
Taking on debt is like getting a tattoo: it doesn't go away, and it’s pretty painful to get rid of.
In the U.S., our current debt picture looks like this:

* National debt $11.6 trillion (but ’09 GDP is only $8.3 trillion)
* Government spending YTD $2.4 trillion (but tax revenue is only $1.2 tril)
* Government bailouts $11.8 trillion (equals $38,815 per U.S. citizen)

But the granddaddy of them all are the unfunded liabilities (meaning, they are not covered by an asset of equal or greater value).

* Medicare/Medicaid liability $39.6 trillion
* Social Security liability $10.6 trillion
* Prescription drug liability $8.5 trillion
* Total unfunded liabilities $58.7 trillion

So where is the money to pay for all this going to come from? The government has only three choices to meet these liabilities:

1. Raise taxes
2. Cut spending
3. Allow inflation to rise from money printing, diluting the debt burden
The Dollar In Your Wallet Is Only Worth 18 cents

Funny Cycling Video Moments

I collect all kind of cycling videos, grand tours, cycling classic races, cycling Olympics, local cycling rides or races, funny ones, cycling crashes, anything related to cycling.

I happened to come across with this video that I have in one of my archives and which compiles several funny cycling moments, making the 4:17 minutes that it lasts, very enjoyable. I just feel sorry for the doggy when the cyclist and the dog collide -at 3:56-, but thank goodness nothing happened to the doggy...nor the rider.

Tour de France 2010 Will Be Exciting

The route of the 2010 Tour de France was unveiled 2 days ago and it promises to be really interesting and tough.
The Tour de France will be celebrating 100 years of life in 2010, that is why the organizers want to make it very exciting and special...and I am ready for it!!!

For example, the third stage for the Paris-Roubaix -the Queen of Classics- will have several sections full with cobblestones that will make that day race quite difficult for some riders, with the exception of Tom Boonen, who absolutely loves cobbled roads -but not sure he will ride the 2010 TdF.
"We don't put cobblestones for riders to fall, but to make a selection," Prudhomme said. "There will be 11km of cobblestones in the last 30km. There will be some damage."

"I think you have to plan your season according to what you see here, too," Armstrong said. "I think even a race like the Tour of Flanders is interesting now because you don't want your only cobblestone experience to be the day you show up here. You need to practice that so we'll build the season around this, too."
There will also be hard and long mountain roads to climb on the Pyrinees and not all the riders will survive them. The 2010 new course will include a total of 23 mountain passes in the Alps, Pyrenees, Jura and Massif Central, three more than this year!
The 2010 Tour will start with a 5-mile prologue in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on July 3 with a final stage on the Champs-Elysees  on Sunday July 25th after 20 stages and will cover a total distance of 3,600 kilometres.
  • 1 prologue,
  • 9 flat stages,
  • 6 mountain stages and 3 summit finishes,
  • 4 medium mountain stage,
  • 1 individual time-trial stage (51 km).

Distinctive aspects of the race

  • le Tourmalet climbed twice,
  • a hint of the Classics and cobblestones,
  • 2 rest days,
  • 23 level 1, level 2 and highest level mountain passes.
"I think it will be much more open than last year because the TTT [team time trial] really eliminated some people last year and you won't have that again," Armstrong said Wednesday after next year's route was announced. "Whereas this year you had three or four guys who could win the Tour, this year you'll go into the tough sections with 10 guys."

Earth Song Michael Jackson Remix Video

This beautiful video was sent to me via YouTube. I decided to upload it here because the work made on the musical remix by the DJ artist is really fantastic. I gave it well deserved 5 stars.

What about sunrise
What about rain
What about all the things
That you said we were to gain.. .
What about killing fields
Is there a time
What about all the things
That you said was yours and mine...
Did you ever stop to notice
All the blood we've shed before
Did you ever stop to notice
The crying Earth the weeping shores?

Aaaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaaah

What have we done to the world
Look what we've done
What about all the peace
That you pledge your only son...
What about flowering fields
Is there a time
What about all the dreams
That you said was yours and mine...
Did you ever stop to notice
All the children dead from war
Did you ever stop to notice
The crying Earth the weeping shores

Aaaaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaaaah

I used to dream
I used to glance beyond the stars
Now I don't know where we are
Although I know we've drifted far

Aaaaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaaaaah
Aaaaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaaaaah

Hey, what about yesterday
(What about us)
What about the seas
(What about us)
The heavens are falling down
(What about us)
I can't even breathe
(What about us)
What about the bleeding Earth
(What about us)
Can't we feel its wounds
(What about us)
What about nature's worth
(ooo,ooo)
It's our planet's womb
(What about us)
What about animals
(What about it)
We've turned kingdoms to dust
(What about us)
What about elephants
(What about us)
Have we lost their trust
(What about us)
What about crying whales
(What about us)
We're ravaging the seas
(What about us)
What about forest trails
(ooo, ooo)
Burnt despite our pleas
(What about us)
What about the holy land
(What about it)
Torn apart by creed
(What about us)
What about the common man
(What about us)
Can't we set him free
(What about us)
What about children dying
(What about us)
Can't you hear them cry
(What about us)
Where did we go wrong
(ooo, ooo)
Someone tell me why
(What about us)
What about babies
(What about it)
What about the days
(What about us)
What about all their joy
(What about us)
What about the man
(What about us)
What about the crying man
(What about us)
What about Abraham
(What was us)
What about death again
(ooo, ooo)
Do we give a damn

Fabulous Cyclist VS Not Fabulous Cyclists

To me, road cycling is about health, fitness, wellness, lots of fun, keeping my mind sharp, but it is also about style, good form on the bike and looking classy and slick.

I just cannot comprehend how some bikers do not care about how they look when they are cycling.

US Dollar Loses Global Status

Who would have told us 5 years ago that the US dollar was facing its demise and decline as a world reserve currency?
I am not an economist, but the recent global financial events have forced me to learn and educate myself about financial issues, critical monetary decisions by the Federal Reserve that have been destroying the economy of the United States and its currency, one horrendous mistake: the printing of the dollar to bailout companies and markets that should have failed long time ago.

I cannot believe that I am witnessing one of the worst financial crimes and ponzy schemes in history.

I think that it's important to keep ourselves informed of what is happening to the American dollar. Most mainstream media does not report truthful facts, either because they just don't care or because they are afraid to inform the public so there's not a run on the banks like in the Great Depression.

For whatever is worth, here it is an important article for you to read and decide what you want to do about your own future.

NOTE: I have extracted what I thought are the most important points of the article and at the bottom of it there's a link so you can go and read it entirety.
Oct. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Central banks flush with record reserves are increasingly snubbing dollars in favor of euros and yen, further pressuring the greenback after its biggest two- quarter rout in almost two decades.

World leaders are acting on threats to dump the dollar while the Obama administration shows a willingness to tolerate a weaker currency in an effort to boost exports and the economy as long as it doesn’t drive away the nation’s creditors. The diversification signals that the currency won’t rebound anytime soon after losing 10.3 percent on a trade-weighted basis the past six months, the biggest drop since 1991.

“Global central banks are getting more serious about diversification, whereas in the past they used to just talk about it,” said Steven Englander, a former Federal Reserve researcher who is now the chief U.S. currency strategist at Barclays in New York. “It looks like they are really backing away from the dollar.”

The dollar’s 37 percent share of new reserves fell from about a 63 percent average since 1999. Englander concluded in a report that the trend “accelerated” in the third quarter. He said in an interview that “for the next couple of months, the forces are still in place” for continued diversification.

America’s currency has been under siege as the Treasury sells a record amount of debt to finance a budget deficit that totaled $1.4 trillion in fiscal 2009 ended Sept. 30.

Intercontinental Exchange Inc.’s Dollar Index, which tracks the currency’s performance against the euro, yen, pound, Canadian dollar, Swiss franc and Swedish krona, fell to 75.77 last week, the lowest level since August 2008 and down from the high this year of 89.624 on March 4. The index, trading at 76.489 today, is within six points of its record low reached in March 2008.

Foreign companies and officials are starting to say their economies are getting hurt because of the dollar’s weakness.

Developing countries have likely sold about $30 billion for euros, yen and other currencies each month since March, according to strategists at Bank of America-Merrill Lynch.

That helped reduce the dollar’s weight at central banks that report currency holdings to 62.8 percent as of June 30, the lowest on record, the latest International Monetary Fund data show. The quarter’s 2.2 percentage point decline was the biggest since falling 2.5 percentage points to 69.1 percent in the period ended June 30, 2002.

“The diversification out of the dollar will accelerate,” said Fabrizio Fiorini, a money manager who helps oversee $12 billion at Aletti Gestielle SGR SpA in Milan. “People are buying the euro not because they want that currency, but because they want to get rid of the dollar. In the long run, the U.S. will not be the same powerful country that it once was.”
Would the decline of the US dollar be a temporary trend or a permanent demise of its value?
In my opinion, the dollar won't be able to regain its status if the interest rates are kept in zero. But how to increase the interest rates when unemployment keeps rising? In my view, it is not possible. This might be the beginning of a downward spiral.
"Central banks’ moves away from the dollar are a temporary trend that will reverse once the Fed starts raising interest rates from near zero, according to Christoph Kind, who helps manage $20 billion as head of asset allocation at Frankfurt Trust in Germany."

Englander at London-based Barclays, the world’s third- largest foreign-exchange trader, predicts the U.S. currency will weaken 3.3 percent against the euro to $1.52 in three months. He advised in March, when the dollar peaked this year, to sell the currency. Standard Chartered, the most accurate dollar-euro forecaster in Bloomberg surveys for the six quarters that ended June 30, sees the greenback declining to $1.55 by year-end.

The dollar’s reduced share of new reserves is also a reflection of U.S. assets’ lagging performance as the country struggles to recover from the worst recession since World War II.

Treasuries have lost 2.4 percent, after reinvested interest, versus a return of 27.4 percent in emerging economies’ dollar- denominated bonds, Merrill Lynch & Co. indexes show.

“Unless you think China does things significantly differently from others,” the anti-dollar trend is unmistakable, Englander said.

Bill Gross, who runs the $186 billion Pimco Total Return Fund, the world’s largest bond fund, said in June that dollar investors should diversify before central banks do the same on concern that the U.S.’s budget deficit will deepen.

“The world is changing, and the dollar is losing its status,” said Aletti Gestielle’s Fiorini. “If you have a 5- year or 10-year view about the dollar, it should be for a weaker currency.”
Dollar Reaches Breaking Point

Favorite Road Cycling Helmets

One of my favorites
I love road bicycle helmets, I really do, not only because I they actually have saved my life several times from falling off the bike but because they make me look cool and awesome.
It is my personal opinion that helmets make any cyclist look better, with more personality and class...more elegant.
That is one of the reasons why I collect helmets, specially road helmets since they are more slick.

There are several brands, some more expensive than others depending on the brand and the way each helmet is made. To mention some, Bell, Giro, Louis Garneau, LAS Kripton and Lazer, my new toy.

I like all brands, some more than other. For example, I find  Louis Garneau helmets very beautiful and elegant, but they can be uncomfortable, especially on the temporal area of the skull. Well, it all depends on the anatomy of your own head, so even though I love Garneau helmets, I only own 2 of them because they pressure on the sides of my head if I wear them for longer than 1 hour.

Bell and Giro helmets are great, the more expensive the model the better, because they are made with more care and quality material.

LAZER is ONE cool helmet!
The newest helmet that I'm having so much fun with is the helmet LAZER from Belgium. It's so very comfortable and fits so perfectly that sometimes I forget I'm wearing it when I'm biking. Its weight is featherlight, only 310 gms, it has 24 vents for perfect ventilation, and it has multi-impact protection technology.

The prices of the helmets can go from 60 to 300 USD, and depending on how much you ride, where you ride and how fast you ride you should choose the best for you.

I personally think that a good more pricey helmet can protect my skull way better than a cheap one, but then again, I bike a lot and go very fast on flats and dowhill, alone and sometimes in the middle of heavy traffic, so I personally need the best of the best.

I also believe that road cycling in fundamentally incompatible with a poor wallet. Sorry, but that is the truth.

No Blogging Today

I don't have anything to talk about today, at least not right now. Maybe later. I'm feeling kind of bored from blogging in a positive way. Sometimes I feel like ranting, but my blog is about being happy and healthy. I wish I had a blog about how to be bitter and unhealthy. Maybe I'll start one like that, so I can blog there when I feel like I feel today.
Anyways, does anybody care about what I write, what I think, what I do? Maybe, maybe not.  Right now, I don't care.

Tootle-loo!

Floyd Landis Not Wanted By Some Cyclists

Floyd Landis wins the 2006 Tour de FranceImage by missingsaddle via Flickr
The Cyclingz.com/Bio Sport cycling team has confirmed Floyd Landis participation in the Tour of Shouthland in New Zealand next month.
This has prompted a very angry response from some cyclists contacted. One professional rider says he "does not want to race against a convicted doper."
Landis has always protested his innocence, but both his A and B samples showed abnormal levels of testosterone.
It is understood the team, formerly Hudson Gavin Martin - a Southland law firm - changed its name to Bio Sport trying not to call attention on the controversy surrounding Landis.

His entry was confirmed today.
Cyclingnz.com team manager Wayne Hudson said the decision to approach Landis came about two weeks ago, when one of their original lineup for the Southland tour switched to another team.
"Although we asked a number of local riders to ride for our team, nearly all of them had already committed to other teams for the tour. It had been a long shot to ask Landis." Hudson said.
"We thought, `why not?' All we can do is ask and if we don't ask, we'll never know whether or not he might have said yes."
"The deal was struck after we were put in contact with Landis' agent, Scott Thompson. Floyd had just finished his competitive season, so was in pretty good form and Scott was confident Floyd would rise to the occasion."--Hudson said.

"Floyd is the kind of guy who will give his best and turn up every day to ride as hard as he can. And sponsors have reacted positively to help offset the cost of flying Landis in. We got an almost instant response of `we're in' from two of them."
Landis will be supported by Auckland riders Nico de Jong, Nick Lovegrove, Jeremy Meech and Southland triathlete Jamie Whyte, all of whom will be racing their second Southland tour.
Landis was trailing leader Tour de France leader Oscar Pereiro by more than eight minutes going into the 17th stage in the 2006 Tour de France.
He launched an impressive all out attack on that stage to win by almost six minutes and got the boost he needed to go on take the overall tour title.
After finishing the stage he was tested and the results came with elevated levels of synthetic testosterone, a performance-enhancing substance. Sample B, positive too.
Landis has strongly maintained his innocence from the start and says that he was wrongly suspended and banned for two years, but he has done his time away from professional cycling and now, free of charge and dues with the law has made his comeback this year with the Maxxis team.

Ross said that he was not too worry not concerned about Landis past history.
"To my mind, he has served his time, been cleared to ride again and he will be treated the same as any other bike rider will be treated."
The thing is, many professional cyclists to participate in the Tour of Southland do not want Floy Landis there, in New Zealand.

WASHINGTON - MARCH 26: Soros Fund Management ...
Not one TV channel -with the exception of Bloomberg L.P.- reported today about what George Soros had to say about the US economy.
Not FOX25, not CNN, no one did, no one cared to inform the American citizens about what the billionaire investor said about them, and I find that absolutely pathetic.

Guns
War
Sexual offenders galore
Swine flu

...that is it, folks, the news of today, FEAR around the clock!
"U.S. consumers are “overdebted” and the country’s banking system has been “basically bankrupt,” Soros said in Istanbul yesterday. “The United States has a long way to go." --Full article on Bloomberg
So far, 98 banks have been shutdown by the FDIC this year, only this year. Only 27 banks failed in 2008. How many banks will close in 2010, in 2011?
This is the complete list of failed banks.

Uh oh,  what a recovery, impressive!

Remember, learning the real facts and educating yourself without fear will give you power and make you stronger. This way, no one will make you a slave, this way, you will always be free.

My New Twitter Account MedicalCyclist

I just set up a new Twitter account because in my current one I practically follow everyone who follows me -don't follow accounts with 'adult' content though, and the tweets I get are mainly promotional ones and not the ones I'm really interested in, like health, medicine, cycling, sports in general.

Don't take me wrong though, I do love to participate in advertisement, I actually happen to like net PR very much, PC coding and tweaking, promotional adventures and what not, but I also like to relax a little -sometimes a lot- have fun and interact with my many virtual -and real life, of course- friends without being interrupted by commercial ads!

So, that is why I wanted to get a Twitter account where I get only tweets from people that I really want to know what they are up to, what they are doing, etc., like Lance Armstrong and other pro cyclists -even though they will never follow me back, since I am just a regular human being, LOL,- health professionals and nice Twitter friends I have made trough my original account, like Mich Sci Fi Musings, Duncan Paisley and other Twitter friends who are into health, sports and pets.

Starting today, I am looking forward to read all of their tweets!

Happy tweeting everyone!

Doctor Castro Wants To Pass It On

Good Sunday everyone. I hope from the bottom of my heart that all my readers who like me and the ones that might not like me for what ever reason, and the ones who don't know me and I don't know from all over the world, in every and each country of this wonderful planet that we call earth, have a wonderful and peaceful day, a peaceful week and a peaceful life.

We are living in hard times right now. Not only financial and economic problems are causing so many people and families around the world to feel sad and depressed, but also the horrible killings, bombings and wars that are going on in several countries right now, are breaking some people's spirits.
It's very hard for some of us to know that there are innocent human beings in many countries dying from hunger, diseases, bombs and military weapons, etc. There are people losing their jobs and houses and having to live in the street in their cars with their children and pets.
When and where is this going to end? When is this madness going to stop? When is the hate going to die? When are love and understanding and tolerance going to flourish? Do you guys/gals think that we -the human race- still have a chance for a better future, for a more loving society, for a more tolerant humanity? I certainly have hope, otherwise I couldn't go on being strong and healthy in my life if I didn't have some sort of hope and faith in humanity, I couldn't survive this terrible bedlam without hope.

That is why I am wishing right now for everyone of you -the 6.942 billion world's population- the following:

1) Peace
2) Love
3) Tolerance
4) Diversity
5) Compassion
6) Strength
7) Health
8) Unity
9) Freedom
10) Hope

Please, please, please.........PASS IT ON!

“Each billboard in the Pass It On campaign is meant to underscore one simple, yet galvanizing message: allow yourself to be inspired by the actions of others to do one thing a little better, and then pass on those values,” said Gary Dixon, president of The Foundation for a Better Life.

Rio de Janeiro Wins 2016 Olympic Games

Rio de Janeiro has won the bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games and the party has begun!
What a fantastic news, I'm so happy and filled with emotion. Rio de Janeiro deserves this win, it is doing much better financially than the other 3 cities that participated in the bid -Chicago, Tokyo, Madrid-, and its people thrive with love and happiness.

Congratulations Rio, I can't wait for 2016!
