Halfway through the year, crime has increased in all but one of the most violent felonies, and shootings plague neighborhoods all over the city.
The overall crime rate through June 27 is down 1% percent, thanks to a 7% drop in grand larcenies. The other six categories of major felonies, however, are up.
Murders have jumped 11%, to 221 from 199, and rapes are up 13%, from 555 to 629. More people have been shot this year, 799 compared to 748, a 7% increase.

There has DEFINITELY been a sharp increase in violent crime. Still, back in 2008 I would happily walk around my town at night - not any more.
ReplyDeleteI went to New York in May 2000, had a great time there. Went back 5 months ago for business...it was a nightmare. New Yorkers in general are lovely, but the city is looking like hell, and everybody wants to rob you, even the cashiers at the markets.
ReplyDeleteNew York a zoo????!!!
ReplyDeleteIn a zoo the animals are in cages...in NY THEY'RE RUNNING WILD!
There is a sense of hopeless and despair in this state over violent crime and a complete lack of interest in or justice for the victims is tangible. You can literally see it and feel it in the air around here.
