Cyclists Pull-Out of Commonwealth Games 2010

New Delhi is hosting the Commonwealth Games this year, but the preparation and construction of the installations has been more than deficient. The athlete's village is filthy with feces on the floor and flooded.
Several athletes have pulled out from the games over concerns about health and security.
Cyclists Welsh rider Thomas, Peter Kennaugh of the Isle of Man and England’s Ian Stannard and Ben Swift made individual decisions to pull out of the games, British Cycling said.
India’s health minister, Gulam Nabi Azad, said that monsoon-caused construction delays have resulted in pools of stagnant water near facilities that are to be used for the Games and created “breeding grounds for mosquitoes and posing a serious health risk.” -VeloNews reported

  1. India had 4 years to prepare, to build and clean the city. What's the matter with them?!!!!

  2. Hmmm...is it just me or is everyone not surprised that the Indian's couldnt organise a pi*# up in a brewery....they can however build a nuclear bomb.

I am expecting the 100m world record to be beaten at these games (daily), as the athletes tear off down the track looking for the nearest toilet...

  3. It is a shame. India had a real opportunity here. And the Commonwealth Games committee and competing nations perhaps should have done more to support her in her development of the area. But, as it is turning out, I can foresee these Games simply not eventuating. I hope they do go ahead in some form. The loss of revenue to so many people could have quite catastrophic effects.

I cannot understand why the games were awarded to Deli in the first place, this area is not a wealthy area and in my mind was always going to big problems with every aspect of the games.

  5. Yeah, I saw the videos for this and came to the conclusion that you wouldn't get me within a mile of the half built ruin. The shocking thing is that they have been given about 1.5 billion to prepare for the games. Nice to see how the UK taxpayers money is being spent.

Mind you, as embaressing as it is, at least they are not as bad as a certain Le Tour athlete who just passed positive for drugs.

    Luck
