S-510 Food 'Safety' Nightmare-Bill Passed

This is really scary, for people living in USA, that something like this has been approved by their senate and soon will be signed by their President, Mr. Barack Hussein Obama.

I am thankful because I live where I live, I am thankful because I have the freedom to grow my own vegetables in my back yard, because I can go to my little veggie land and yank out a lettuce, a carrot, pick a sukini, a raddish and a tomato, bring them to my kitchen, wash them and put them on my table to eat, for my family and me. Oh, today I just realized how much freedom I have where I live, and for that, I am deeply thankful.
Georgia Farmer fined 5k for growing veggies at home
WASHINGTON—The Senate passed the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (S.510) by a 73 to 25 vote today. The $1.4 billion bill is the first major overhaul of food safety law for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 70 years and gives FDA enhanced responsibility to ensure the nation’s food safety.
The House of Representatives approved a different version of the food safety bill in 2009; however, the bill’s sponsor Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) said the House has agreed to adopt the Senate version, bypassing the need for a conference to integrate the two bills. Once approved, the bill will move on to President Barack Obama for his signature.
The bill gives FDA greater authority to initiate recalls, rather than waiting for food companies to voluntarily recall food products. Food processors and farmers also would be required to develop strategies to prevent contamination, and would be required to allow FDA access to all records.

Mamma Mia Movie Honey Honey

ENGLISH VERSION:
I am choosing this YouTube video as my favorite for this week, simply because this song is part of the Mamma Mia movie and I just love it too much not to blog about it today.
I adore Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried and Pierce Brosnan, and seeing them together in this fantastic movie is a true gift for me.
I am on the couch, feverish present, coughing, my throat hurts, my muscles ache...and feel miserable, so I decided to make myself happy watching one of my favorite movies: MAMMA MIA!

Pat-Downs Robbing the Dignity of Airline Passengers

ENGLISH VERSION:
Who, who has dignity, would let him/herself be pat-down by a full of morons at the US airports?
Certainly, not me.
I cannot comprehend how is it that thousands of Americans allow themselves to be humiliated in such manner, and to top it all, foreigners who visit United States do not mind that incredible degradation. But believe it or not, that is not the worst scenario: what about letting your child being strip searched by TSA (Transportation Security Administration) perverts

I understand that the alternative to body searching is going through X-ray scanners (full body naked imaging scan) that give you radiation and put your health in danger, and expose the privacy of your body to PERVERTS!

I have a simple solution to this problem: do not fly! If you are going to travel use your car, a bus, ships or boats if you are going across the pond. Whatever, DO NOT FLY for God sakes, have some dignity, people.
I definitely wouldn't want to travel to a Fascist country.

What About Condoms?

ENGLISH VERSION:
GONORRHEA OUTBREAK IN ALASKA CONTINUES
An outbreak of gonorrhea across Alaska that began in 2009 is continuing this year, and health officials say they are trying new ways to curb it.

Even with the increased attention and effort, Alaska's gonorrhea numbers continue to climb.
The final count for 2009 was 1,006 cases -- which was even higher than what was reported to the CDC.
Already the number for 2010 has topped that, Jones said.
But while Alaska cases go up, the national rate dropped from 2006 to 2009, according to the CDC.
Health officials urge people who suspect they've been infected to get tested at their doctor's office, local public health clinic, Alaska Native regional health corporation clinic or Planned Parenthood clinic.

My Cat Bitsy is a Cyclist

ENGLISH VERSION:
That little white thing on top of the female spinner is my cat, Bitsy. It amazes me how much she loves cycling, and anything related to it, spinning, helmets, cycling clothing. She even watches with me the cycling videos I watch.
I wonder if she is really a human cyclist trapped in a cat's body...?

USA Cities looking like Haiti

ENGLISH VERSION:
When I watch this video I thought it was Haiti, and this is exactly what CNN and other main-stream media corporations don't want you to see. They just want to sweep their "little secrets" under the rag, and do you know why?

...because it embarrasses them. Their are ashamed of their own citizen that have fallen into extreme poverty and social abandonment.

Poverty in America Tent Cities spreading all over US

ENGLISH VERSION:
Main-stream media sucks, they are an embarrassment, and total dishonest journalism. CNN, Fox News and others, love to bash Mexico everyday, they exaggerate and sensationalize  the news, they lie about Mexico and do not report the horrible reality going on in their own country, the US.
The United States of America is BROKE, their citizens live in tent cities because their government doesn't have enough money to set up shelters for the homeless and unemployed. But of course, private businessess are going BROKE, cities are going BROKE, guess where the country is heading...?

Meatloaf Recipe for after a Long Bicycle Ride

If you are cycling 4 to 5 hours this Saturday, you might want to have a delicious and nutritious meatloaf dish waiting for you at home after finishing that long bike ride.
There are many ways to prepare meatloaf. The traditional way is to use ground beef and form it into a loaf shape. But pork and veal are also used.
Its origins are European, from Germany, Belgium and Rome, since the 5th century. Now, meatloaf is prepared by many countries and in many different ways.

DELICIOUS MEATLOAF FOR LONG ENDURANCE CYCLISTS
This recipe is relatively easy to prepare and cooks fast.
Preparation time: 20 minutes to prep, 1 hour to cook.

Ingredients

* 1 cup of finely chopped onion
* 1 celery rib, chopped fine
* 1 Tbsp minced garlic
* 1 carrot, chopped fine
* 1/2 cup of finely chopped scallions (can substitute onion)
* 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
* 2 teaspoon salt
* 1 1/2 tsp freshly ground pepper
* 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
* 2/3 cup ketchup
* 1 1/2 pounds of ground beef
* 3/4 pound of spicy ground pork
* 1 cup fresh bread crumbs
* 2 large eggs, beaten slightly
* 1/3 cup minced fresh parsley leaves

Method

1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

2 In a large heavy skillet cook the onion, celery, carrot, garlic, and scallions in butter, over medium heat, stirring, for about 5 minutes. Cover the skillet and stir occasionally until the carrots are tender, about 5 more minutes. Stir in salt and pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and 1/3 a cup of ketchup. Cook for 1 more minute.

3 In a large bowl, combine the meats, eggs, vegetables, bread crumbs, and parsley. Form into a loaf and put into a rectangular baking pan with 2-inch high sides. Cover the loaf with remaining ketchup.

4 Bake the meatloaf in the oven for 1 hour.

Serves 4 to 6, with plenty for leftovers for meatloaf sandwiches.

Mexicans Buy only MADE IN MEXICO

It is necessary to address a very important problems we are currently living in Mexico: Transnational Corporations (Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Costco, etc) keep on invading our country...and we keep on making them richer buying their products all the time, and we destroy our capacity of production.
It is time we stop and consume only Made in Mexico products, or our future will be disastrous.

It is so annoying to me to see the huge lines crossing the San Ysidro-Tijuana border every morning. WHY IN THE FRIGGIN' WORLD TIJUANENSES NEED TO CROSS the International border everyday to buy American goods, while Tijuana commerce suffers and retail stores close their doors because of lack of business.
Think people. Stay in TJ and consume Mexican products ONLY. It doesn't matter if the name of the product is COLGATE or Whiskas, just make sure that the Colgate and Whiskas both, are made in Mexico, NOT IMPORTED from the US and PLEASE, NOTHING IMPORTED FROM CHINA!

Shirley Verrett RIP Life is Beautiful Movie

Rest in peace, Shirley Verret. Oh my God, I cannot believe it. I just bought La Vita é Bella (Life is Beautiful) DVD last week and I didn't know she had passed away 7 days before!
In this movie, Ms. Shirley Verrett, mezzo-soprano voice, is heard singing in a majestic-breathtaking way, Belle Nuit (o nuit d'amour -Barcarolle)

I AM so deeply saddened for her death and cannot believe that she is gone, I just cannot believe it!
My heart goes out to her family and friends. And thank you, Ms Verrett, for the emotion and feelings you put in my heart when you sang, with overwhelming beauty, Belle Nuit.

Oh, I am so envious of those angels now. They are enjoying your celestial voice as we speak, Ms. Verret. But it's OK, I shouldn't be so greedy. I had the pleasure to enjoy your voice on earth, now it's the angels turn in heaven.
Rest in peace, Ms. Shirley Verrett.

Poverty in America Blog of the Week

I chose this blog because of the information it provides, honesty and truth in its reporting and data. Main stream media is not reliable anymore. It's much better to use alternative media to get the real truth about what is going on in the world. Not saying that ALL MSM is 100 percent bad or that all alternative media is good either. We just have to learn how to have an open mind, and not let ourselves be manipulated.

Texas poverty 17.2%

POVERTY IN AMERICA
Exert from its latest article:
 As the economic downturn lingers, a striking characteristic is just how widespread its impact still is. Recent reports state that more Americans are now living in poverty in the suburbs than in cities — a trend that has increased dramatically during the recession. At the same time, there has been an increase in the number of families who once donated to food pantries or other organizations serving the poor who now need to turn to these same places for help themselves. As more Americans experience economic uncertainty, the face of poverty in our nation today is changing. The harmful threats from the current recession which are leaving so many families newly desperate and at wits end are not new for millions of chronically poor children.

Blogging in English as a Second Language

By now, some of you might have noticed that sometimes when I write my posts either I make some mistakes in my writing, or my words and way I express my opinions are quite simple, and the reason is because English is my second language, being Spanish my first one.

It is funny. When I am mentally tired it could take me up to an hour to write in English my daily post, but if I write the same post in Spanish it takes me few minutes!

Lately, I have noticed that my blog has being attracting traffic from Mexico, Central and South America. That is why I have decided to write my posts in both, English and Spanish, being the first one the main language of my entire blog.

Thank you to my followers and readers from US, Canada, UK and the rest of Europe for their patience and for keep on coming to my blog day after day. Thank you for your understanding and for your kindness through out the years.

Alberto Contador Facing Cycling Ban

That's right. Alberto Contador could be banned 2 years from professional cycling and stripped from his 2010 Tour de France winner title, if the RFEC (Royal Spanish Cycling Federation) finds him guilty.
The UCI requested the Spanish Federation to open proceedings against Contador for failing a drug test. In the meantime, Alberto Contador has been provisionally suspended by the UCI.
Well, Alberto didn't last too long, huh? Never liked the guy. Never liked his hand-gun shooting celebration thingie.
Oh well, maybe he will be considering changing careers now. How about going to a shooting range instead of a cycling race, Alberto?

Read more

Bueno, Alberto no duro mucho, eh? Ni modo. Nunca me cayo bien.

End of Liberty in the US Movie

These interesting times we are living now, require that we pay close attention to the social, political and financial events going on in the world.
The problem is that the majority of the main stream media of the US, Mexico, Canada, Latin America, Europe, Asia, etc., do not report consistently the truth nor the important events that go on in the world.
That is why is important to keep ourselves well informed, listening to blog talk radio, internet radio, financial/social/political issues podcasts, etc. Keep your mind open, try to learn economy problems and international financial transactions. Do not believe everything said, ask questions, analyse if it's possible or it's just fear mongering, but remember, governments of countries are the ones that start and create the worst cruel fear mongering

Mr. Bob Chapman, the international forecaster is one of my favorites to listen, but I try to keep my mind open and listen to many more economists that are not part of the MSM.

This video is the latest movie produced by NIA. IMO, worth watching.

New Jersey Lay-Off 1200 Workers

The state of New Jersey will have 1,200 workers less on January 1, 2011 due to a severe imbalance of the state's budget.
Layoff notices have gone out to those state employees likely to be affected and notification has been given to the state’s Civil Service Commission, Gov. Chris Christie said.
Lay offs might have come earlier, but the unions had reached a pact with former Gov. Jon S. Corzine to prevent layoffs until 2011.
Inquiring minds want to know why, Barack H. Obama, current president of the US, said the following:
"We've seen eight months in a row of private sector job growth. We're actually seeing more job growth so far in this recovery than we did in the last recovery that we had back in 2001," Obama said during an interview on NBC television.
