Living Well With Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia doesn't have to limit the patient's quality of life. Patients have to know that there are effective treatments to reduce the pain and eventually to get rid of all the symptoms.
Treatments have to be accompanied by eating healthy habits and other preventive/corrective measures.
Fibromyalgia is not a well understood disease that still has the stigma of not being a real illness to many. However, people who do have fibromyalgia would argue that the reality of their life with fibromyalgia includes pain, stiffness, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping. As a recent patient told me "everything but my eyeballs hurt!" I have also been told by patients that it feels like you have the flu...achy all over...but it never goes away.
Some studies of the brain changes and chronic pain may help researchers and doctors better understand fibromyalgia.
The latest research is suggesting that fibromyalgia has a connection with the central nervous system and is the result of a malfunction, or dysfunction, of the central nervous system. Dr. Kuchinad and colleagues studied 10 women who had fibromyalgia and compared them with 10 women who did not have the illness. Among the women with fibromyalgia, Kuchinad's team found a reduction in brain tissue that wasn't found in the controls. This finding was backed up by yet another study not long after. Other research has shown awake like brain activity in patients with Fibromyalgia when sleeping. No REM sleep leads to the unrefreshed sleep common with the condition.

Point being, you don't have to give up and live with pain. Find an intelligent medical doctor who really cares about your medical problem and knows a lot about it.

Eat Healthy Keep It Simple

Want to live a longer-healthier life? Keep it simple, everything you do in your life, at work, with your family, even when you choose what to eat, keep it simple.

Eating over-processed food is damaging to your metabolism. The fresher the food you eat the healthier it is.
Do you want potato chips, re-fried beans, rice? Make them yourself. It is cheaper and healthier, with no preservatives and way less salt ingredients.

Let's put it this way: If it doesn't spoil fast, then don't eat it.

Staying healthy is very important for us not only not to be over weight or to avoid diseases like diabetes, hypertension, etc, but also to bring positive energy into our lives. Feeling good is not only about expecting others to say hello to us, it's much more than that and so simple:

1) Avoid Anxiety
2) Do not over eat
3) Exercise at least 4 times a week
4) Eat healthy
5) Have fun in everything you do in life.

Preventing Athletes Sudden Death Discussion

I have a problem with Dr. Viskin Test, trying to tell us that he just discover something that I have known since I was in medical school. When I studied basic cardiology I knew what he is telling he just discovered and that could save thousands of athletes lives. Well, I have been doing this during my 25 years of medical practice.

Dr. Sami Viskin of Tel Aviv University's Sackler Faculty of Medicine "discover" that additional EKGs would decrease sudden deaths in athletes, especially the ones that like extreme exhaustion and long endurance.
He says that by identifying long QTs in patients who practice long endurance exercising or to extortion could develop this pattern of electrocardiographic waves on the EKG.
Well, yes, I agree, but this is certainly NOT a discovery. It's well known that prolonged QTs tell me that the patient is prompt to have a severe heart infarction or even a sudden death.

Dr. Viskin says:
"...the QT interval shortens when the heart rate accelerates, but this response is not instantaneous. In the study, he tested whether sudden changes in a body as it stands up would reveal an abnormally prolonged QT interval patients with long QT syndrome (LQTS), the most common cause of sudden death. Those affected with LQTS have a normal heart structure but have problems in the electrical discharge in the heart -- they have trouble "recharging" after these sudden changes."
Well, thank you Dr. Viskin, but I am afraid that this test is not a discovery of yours. Young athletes who train to exhaustion should have a cardiologist who cares enough about their medical health to be on the look out for LQTS appearing on

I couldn't disagree with Obama more:

"Republicans will make the US a "Third World" nation" - Obama

But pretty and smart, Stacey Herbert says:
"Apparently he -Obama- has never been out of the US. He doesn't realize it's already a third world. It's filled with potholes and dilapidated airports".

Ireland Ghost Towns by Max Keiser

This is how many parts of Ireland look now: empty buildings. And what is going on in Ireland right now, as we speak, it's going on in United States of America, England, France, Spain, Iceland, Portugal, Greece, Italy and other countries of the world.
I don't care how much people want to deny reality, the damage is done. Unemployment is sky rocketing and inflation continues to rise, and all this decadence is brought to you by the POWERS THAT BE!

Meatloaf Recipe for after a Long Bicycle Ride

If you are cycling 4 to 5 hours this Saturday, you might want to have a delicious and nutritious meatloaf dish waiting for you at home after finishing that long bike ride.
There are many ways to prepare meatloaf. The traditional way is to use ground beef and form it into a loaf shape. But pork and veal are also used.
Its origins are European, from Germany, Belgium and Rome, since the 5th century. Now, meatloaf is prepared by many countries and in many different ways.

Say No to Chinese Food (No Egg Rolls for me anymore!)

Definitely no more Chinese food for me, no more.

A relative of mine went to China for business, came back and told me that at a restaurant there he saw that they had live monkeys in cages (I trust that my readers would understand the implication of this horror without me having to explain any further).

Thank God, at least 500 dogs were rescued in China from these heartless Chinese people who do not care about anything else but money. They do not care about using dog or cat meat for their food to sale, as long as it's cheap to get and as long as they make a lot of profit from it.

What a disgrace to the human race, REALLY!!!
"These images left in suspense to anyone who respects the life of animals. Although it is a bizarre gastronomic tradition in China, according to the activists for the rights of animals, they have saved an average of 500 dogs that were to be sold as meat."

My First Vegetable Crop of 2011

I want to share with you some pictures of my vegetable garden. I have planted a great variety of seeds this year and started early. Now they have sprouted beautifully!
Yellow and white corn is already visible, about 2 inches tall; green beans are happy, lots of them, celery, beefsteak tomato, zucchini (different varieties), lettuce, green cabbage (I wasn't successful with red cabbage; maybe the seeds were too old, but I will keep trying, that's for sure). I also have potatoes, but they haven't sprouted yet, and I am so anxious to see them grow!

Tomato and Meat More Valuable than Gold?

With food prices on the rise, corn at $751 USD the ton, Brent crude at $121, coffee at $283 and wheat at $777, everything else, like tomatoes, potatoes, vegetables, fruits and meat prices go to the sky.

People are being laid off, some others still have a job but with high inflation and with the current devaluation of the dollar some people have started to see tomatoes and meat with more valuable than gold.

At 7:15 minutes, you can hear the story about the tomatoes being stolen. Scroll down and you can read the story about the produce loads being robbed in Florida, and how there is a black market developing for them in Los Angeles, New York, Detroit, Sacramento, Oregon.

Tomato Thieves story
“I’ve never experienced people targeting produce loads before,” said Shaun Leiker, an assistant manager at Allen Lund, a trucking broker in Oviedo, Fla., that was hit three times by the thieves. “It’s a little different than selling TVs off the back of your truck.”

Serial Killer in New York on the Loose

And the serial killer boom in the US begins. Not that serial killers went away totally, but the amount of them decreased between 1995 and 2005. I wonder why is it that serial killers are starting to appear again...mmmm...they were very popular in the 70's and 80's. Just saying.

Go to this link and scroll down to the United States of America Identified and Unidentified serial killers lists; its the longest, then it's the UK, Germany, France, Africa.

10 Best Exercises For The Mature Adult

It doesn't matter how old you are to start loving sports and exercise in general. Being healthy and fit is the key to a longer and much happier life.
So, if you are 40, 50, even 60 or 70, it doesn't matter. There are many outdoor or indoor activities that we all can do to enhance our well being.

1. Aerobics
2. Brisk walking
3. Cycling
4. Swimming
5. Jogging
6. Treadmill
7. Indoor bike
8. Yoga
9. Dancing
10. Strength trainning

30 to 45 minutes a day of aerobic exercise or activity, five days a week, is the minimum time recommended to get physical benefits, but if you can increase the time, the frequency and intensity, it would be much better for you because it can reduce the risk of chronic disease related to inactivity.

Dr. Miriam E. Nelson, director of the John Hancock Center for Physical Activity and Nutrition at Tufts University in Boston and lead author of the new recommendations, published in The Journal on Active Aging the following:

“...with every increasing decade of age, people become less and less active, but the evidence shows that with every increasing decade, exercise becomes more important in terms of quality of life, independence and having a full life. So as of now, Americans are not on the right path.”
So, come on and live the life with passion and energy. Do not start dying while breathing.

If you haven't exercised ever in your life and you are over 45 or 50 years old, you might want to pay a visit to your family doctor, have an EKG done, your blood drawn for a general check up, and ask your doctor if it's OK for you to start an exercise program. If everything is alright then congratulations and begin your new healthy life.

Market Horror: Drug-resistant Bacteria found in US Meat

Investigators in the United States found severe high levels of the bacteria Staphylococcus Aureus in meat that is easily found on any U.S. grocery store shelves, and the horror of it is than more than half of that meat has the kind of Staphylococcus that is resistant to many different strong new generation kind of antibiotics.

The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGRI) examined 136 meat samples from 26 grocery stores in Illinois, Florida, California, Arizona and Washington D.C. and all of them came positive.

If you live in Mexico and you usually buy American meat, well DON'T anymore! You go to your market of your choice and ask for 100% Mexican meat brought from Sonora, Baja California Norte (Tijuana or Mexicali. Make sure the tag says: HECHO EN MEXICO (Made in Mexico) to assure yourself you are buying clean healthy meat.

"FDA has been monitoring the situation. The TGRI study points out that the public health relevance of the findings is unclear. FDA continues to work with CDC and USDA to better understand this issue," the FDA spokeswoman said.

BEING FAT IS NOT BEING HAPPY! -CHAPTER ONE-

Having a happy life is not only about laughter and having the right financial position to buy things. I find that being happy starts with our bodies, like eating healthy, drinking healthy and exercising. I don't care what obese people say about acceptance, it cannot be true, it's impossible to be happy when you are carrying 100 or 200 or more lbs of extra fat, when you can hardly move or walk or bend to tie your shoes.
Not accepting obesity is rejecting an unhappy and unhealthy life style.

United We Strike Movement Radio

In these times, some people are suffering more than others, financially. Many have lost their jobs, homes, many are in despair, while others don't even realize -or don't want to admit- that there is a problem indeed, a worldwide economic recession and a financial depression in many countries.

I believe that the only way we can prevent calamity and pain is through educating people who are unaware, explaining facts to them, getting rid of their ignorance.

UNITEDWESTRIKE.COM is a very interesting website where you can start to gather some information about the dangers of more globalization.

These are some points they stand for:

1. We will no longer participate in wars that profit the global powers at the expense of the people.
2. We will no longer hand over the fruits of our labour to those who abuse and misuse us.
3. We will not submit to Global Government or Tyranny or Fascism.
4. We will stand as ONE and withdraw support from Governments Gone Wild.

Militant Atheism Is As Bad As Fundamentalist Religion

Is radical or militant atheism as bad as fundamentalist religion?

I think so. Fundamentalist religious people are well known for their rejection of people who don't think or feel the same way they do, and what I have found out myself is that hardcore atheists act exactly the same way. Militant atheists tend to consider anybody who believe in God as crazy, deluded, mentally retarded, "Christ psychotics", and many more derogatory insults, and the irony of all is that they think that they are smarter and mentally sane.

Would hyperinflation happen only in the US or globally, since the USD is the main currency of the world?

You Are a Bunch of Slaves!

Yeah, Jim Morrison said it perfectly: "You're a bunch of SLAVES"
I couldn't agree with him more. Most people are sheep, docile, simpletons and so vulnerable who would rather follow than make an independent decision. Most people cannot function without leaders, and THAT is why the world will never change, because 90% of the populous do not have thoughts of their own.

My final quote: Most people are sheep who rather follow than having thoughts of their own. Pathetic.

Hitler Youth Cyclists Hate Group

I definitely do not like the style of this cycling team. For starters, they are not wearing helmets, their form on the bike sucks, them saluting their Fascist dictator (Nazi Hitler) instead of focusing on PEDALING THE BIKE (horror joke/sarcasm intended), they are not wearing nice cycling jerseys, they suck, period.

ARROGANT SURGEONS

It's been said that surgeons have a great ego and that they look all arrogant and feel superior.
Well, I think that surgeons do need to have an ego. There is a big responsibility that lies in our hands. When I say ego I don't mean to be rude to anybody, but to be self confident in what we do and perform. The life of our patients depends on what we know, how we feel, etc. Sometimes we are so worry about our patients welfare that we might seem arrogant to others, what they don't understand is that while we are eating or drinking coffee we are thinking about the patient we just did surgery on and hoping that everything went OK, thinking that we have to call the hospital to find out how the patient is doing, if the intake and outtake fluids are OK, vital signs, bleeding, etc..So, it's not only that we have huge egos, it's the huge responsibility we have that makes us appear "very important" to some students or people in general.

Samuel Sanchez Takes Tour of the Basque Stage 4

Sammy Sanchez says that being cunning helped him to win stage four of the Tour of Basque. He admits that the stage was very hard, and that the rest of the racers put as much effort trying to cross the finish line first as he did.
Samuel Sanchez tells reporters:
"I didn't feel good on the climb but I was a little more cunning than the rest in what is a very difficult finish," Sanchez said. "Everybody suffered in that extreme heat, and it made what is already a very tough climb even harder.
"It was great to take that win, but overall the whole race remains completely undecided.
"It's going to be very difficult to beat Rodriguez after he defended himself so well today."

Benefits VS Limitations of Wearing Cycling Helmets

Do you prefer to wear a cycling helmet or be a bare-headed cyclist?
There are definitely lots of benefits that come from wearing a cycling helmet. I personally have fallen off the bike, hit the ground and the helmet got dented but nothing happened to my skull, thankfully.
Other times, I feel that the helmet is a limitation when I cycle in traffic, because it gives me less space between me and the cars.
Insulation from heat? That could be debatable too. I know there are many cyclists who don't like wearing helmets but they do just because "it's the right thing to do", "it's in fashion" or, "it's the law"
I choose to wear a cycling helmet because it has saved my skull from being fracture at least 2 or 3 times, also looking like a pro gives me an advantage in the street; car drivers tend to respect me more if I look good on the bike rather than disheveled or like a casual biker.
