Tens Of Millions Of American Families Are Living On The Edge Of Desperation ? And The Economy Is About To Get A Whole Lot Worse

Have you ever been so poor that you had to live in your car? Have you ever been so low on funds that the only place you could afford to live was a rat-infested motel? Have you ever spent a night living in a tent city or sleeping in the streets? If not, you should consider yourself to be very fortunate.

At predetermined intervals, attendants boost the speed and grade of the treadmill he’s running on while computers record his heart rate and oxygen levels. The Fatmax figures out when a body is burning fat (as opposed to carbohydrates) most efficiently. “Hold out as long as you can,” Gatorade scientist JohnEric Smith tells Shumpert. Short people have 'shortage' of genes - Telegraph

Just because I´m 5.2 feet, scientists have decided that I am a chromosomal delation?!
I say, this is war now. I have to start a new campaign worldwide promoting the greatness of shorties like me, our beauty, our intelligence and of course, our genetic perfection imprinted in the RNA/DNA of the soul (have the scientists discovered the existence of the soul yet...I hope so, otherwise...this war is over before it´s started!)

Height is largely passed down through families but scientists have so far only identified specific gene characteristics to explain about 10 per cent of the difference between people's heights.

Britain's Foreign Office Prepares For Riots In Europe; Sees Euro Collapse

As every major developed economy hits Bass's Keynesian Endgame, the status quo is set to change dramatically. Nowhere is this climax playing out louder than in Europe and the implicit solution of Germany-uber-alles (while seemingly inevitable though nevertheless lengthy in execution) is likely to not sit well with many of the EMU nations. To wit, The Telegraph today reports that Britain's Foreign Office is advising its overseas embassies to draw up plans to help expats should the collapse of the Euro turn explosive. Almost incredibly, a senior minister has revealed that Britain is now planning on the basis that a euro collapse is matter of time.

Trouble

The global economy is heading for a massive amount of trouble in the months ahead. Right now we are seeing the beginning of a credit crunch that is shaping up to be very reminiscent of what we saw back in 2008. Investors and big corporations are pulling huge amounts of money out of European banks and nobody wants to lend to those banks right now. We could potentially see dozens of "Lehman Brothers moments" in Europe in 2012. Meanwhile, bond yields on sovereign debt are jumping through the roof all over Europe.

The euro crisis: The screw tightens | The Economist

Researchers Make Discoveries in Fight against Pancreatic Cancer

New discoveries are giving researchers hope about the future of detection and treatment of pancreatic cancer, one of the most difficult cancers to find early and treat effectively. During the past 10 years, the American Cancer Society has invested more than $60 million in more than 150 research studies into the prevention, early detection and treatment of pancreatic cancer.

One reason pancreatic cancer is so hard to find early is that the pancreas is located deep inside the body, making it nearly impossible for health care providers to see or feel tumors during routine exams. Patients usually have no symptoms until the cancer has already spread to other organs. Only about 5% of patients live 5 years past diagnosis, which is among the lowest survival rates for any cancer.

Cancer-Causing Protein Strongly Tied to Hormone Resistance in Breast Cancer - 11/08/2011

Study shows resistance is reversible

In dozens of experiments in mice and in human cancer cells, a team of Johns Hopkins scientists has closely tied production of a cancer-causing protein called TWIST to the development of estrogen resistance in women with breast cancer. Because estrogen fuels much breast cancer growth, such resistance — in which cancers go from estrogen positive to estrogen negative status — can sabotage anticancer drugs that work to block estrogen and prevent disease recurrence after surgery. Estrogen resistance develops in over half of women taking estrogen-blocking medications, such as tamoxifen, and exists from the start in many other women.

The Johns Hopkins-led team of cancer experts also reports that stalling TWIST production significantly reverses estrogen resistance.

Computer trained to evaluate breast cancer

Since 1928, the way breast cancer characteristics are evaluated and categorized has remained largely unchanged. It is done by hand, under a microscope. Pathologists examine the tumors visually and score them according to a scale first developed eight decades ago. These scores help doctors assess the type and severity of the cancer and, accordingly, to calculate the patient's prognosis and course of treatment.

Euphoria may have returned briefly courtesy of yet another promise for a resignation that will likely not be effectuated for weeks or months, if at all, and already someone has done the math on what the events in the past several days reveal for Italy. In fact, a recent survey of 1,000 people found unsafe road conditions to be the single largest deterrent for would-be cyclists. So how can we make our roads safer for our cyclists?

Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy Have Lost Credibility - WSJ.com

By SIMON NIXON

"Six weeks to save the euro," European leaders promised the world in September. That deadline passed at last week's Cannes G-20 summit with the goal looking further away then ever. Nothing of substance was agreed on the French Riviera to aid the cause of euro survival, but one giant decision was taken that could hasten its demise. Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy's announcement that Greece is free to leave the euro has transformed the nature of the euro.

London 2012 - Cavendish given full support for 2012 - Yahoo! Eurosport

Cavendish, who won the recent road world title and was victorious in the Olympic test event earlier this year, will be joined by four British team-mates - the maximum possible.

In addition, two members of that squad have been cleared to ride in the men's time trial three days later.
Cavendish was part of an eight-strong team when he won his rainbow jersey in Copenhagen, but there were 210 entrants in that race, compared to the slimmed down 145 allowed at the Olympics.
British Cycling performance director, Dave Brailsford, said: "This is a very satisfying achievement for us and the contribution of all the riders and the support team has been fantastic.
"Our progress over the past 12 months in particular has been good, meaning we have been able to steadily build up Olympic qualification points and achieve the aim of taking a full squad to the Games."

This Is Only Just The Beginning

For a long time, there have been those that have warned that economic riots are coming to this nation. Anger and frustration with the economy and with our financial system have grown to unprecedented levels, and this has fueled the rise of the various protest movements that we have seen over the last couple of years. People are fed up and they want solutions. Unfortunately, anger and frustration can express themselves in dangerous and unpredictable ways. What we have seen in Oakland, in Seattle and in other major U.S. cities this week is only just the beginning of the massive economic riots that are coming to this country. Yes, "anarchists" were responsible for quite a bit of the violence that we have seen this week, but they were not the only ones involved. Some protesters were getting violent too, and there has also been quite a bit of police brutality. Of course the vast majority of Occupy Wall Street protesters do not want anything to do with violence and they recognize that violence is not the answer.
